Template Management Overview
Learn how to build, manage, and deploy inspection templates in Algus across web and mobile.
What is a Template?
In Algus, a Template is the blueprint for an inspection, audit, checklist, or assessment. It defines the structure of the form, the questions that need to be answered, the logic rules governing those questions, and the final report output.
Templates ensure standardization. Every time a user conducts an inspection using a specific template, they are presented with the exact same format and requirements, ensuring consistent data collection across your entire organization.
The Template Lifecycle
Managing templates in Algus typically follows this lifecycle:
- Creation: Start from a blank slate, use the AI Template Builder, or choose a pre-built template from the Public Library.
- Drafting & Structure: Build the template using Pages, Sections, and various Question Types.
- Logic Configuration: Add conditional logic to show or hide questions based on previous answers.
- Testing: Use the Preview feature to test the template and logic before publishing.
- Publishing: Make the template available to users.
- Access Control: Define which users, groups, or sites have permission to use the template.
- Deployment: Send inspection invitations or schedule templates for recurring inspections.
- Versioning: Make changes to published templates, creating a new version without affecting historical data.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Does updating a published template delete or overwrite historical inspection reports?
No. When you modify and publish a template, a new version is created. Existing historical inspection reports remain locked and linked to the specific version of the template that was active when the inspection was submitted.
Can an inspector edit templates from the mobile app?
No. Template editing and structural configuration are web-only features restricted to users holding Administrator or Template Manager roles. Inspectors on the mobile app can only browse and fill out published templates.
